A visitor told me went to see Dylan's grave and saw bottle's of whisky there. I tend to agree people who do this are a bit weird- I would not leave a bottle of Bourbon on Jack Kerouac's grave,or a line on Hendrix's grave." K'nowt so weird as folk" as my Yorkshire educators would say.

"It is Spring, moonless night in the small town, starless and bible-black, the

cobblestreets silent and the hunched, courter's-and-rabbits' wood limping

invisible down to the sloeblack, slow, black, crowblack, fishingboat-bobbing

sea. The houses are are blind as moles (though moles see fine tonight in the

snouting, velvet dingles) or blind as Captain Cat there in the muffled middle by

the pump and the town clock, the shops in mourning, the Welfare Hall in widows'

weeds. And all the people of the lulled and dumbfound town are sleeping now."

So started Dylan Thomas in "Under Milk Wood", based on his experiences in Wales, but especially in the township of Laugharne

where he spent much time, reflecting his experiences in the sleepy township that he loved so much .

Dylan lived on and off in Laugharne for most of his adult life- he first visited Laugharne when he crossed the river Taf on the ferry, where he was staying with his cousins across the estuary. The myth he got a bus and never left is sadly wrong.  He stayed in many houses in Laugharne, Caitlin spent many months with Frances Hughes in the House the Hughes rented in Laugharne- the Castle House- (Frances was wife of Richard Hughes, writer, best known for High Wind to Jamaica, though wrote 5 novels in total, good friend of of Augustus John and Clough Williams-Ellis.  More to follow...
