In response to various emails I have sent to the Minister of Heritage, and maybe others who have emailed him, I have had a reply
"The Minister has asked Jonathan Jones, Director of Tourism and Marketing in the Welsh Assembly Government, to meet with you to discuss the issues you have raised, as he is best placed to advise and assist you."
I will arrange a meeting-any-one who would like to attend call me on 01994 427616 or email me. This is a chance for those of us who have views about say the Closure of Brown's to have say.Other issues which are important if the Township wants to continue as an economically viable community, and maintain the services that are so important to the local community. |

Roger Hollies, whose father John installed a small wind turbine at Brixtaw Farm,Laugharne, has set up a website covering energy efficiency and Green generation of electricity Save and Generate.Roger says "The site is designed to be a 'one stop shop' (I dislike the term but it fits) for anyone interested in energy efficiency or renewable energy. The key features are: in depth information with economic calculators, the GIS map showing locations of installers and (soon) case studies of existing installations, and the quote finder system which automatically contacts all the accredited installers in the area with anonymous details for the easy collection of quote estimates for installation of systems. The benefits are the ease of the site, the provision of clear unbiased information and the provision of tools to enable people to act on any desire to move towards a more sustainable energy lifestyle without subjecting themselves to a sales pitch!"
Site looks good- and maybe a project Laugharne should be looking at-Communities can generate significant funds for the community. |

This is just a thought-not involved with the inner workings of Laugharne Corporation. But they have substantial Cash in the Bank, I am told. I understand they have purchased a couple of properties to then rent-which is admirable. A suggestion- why not buy some of the For Sale properties in Laugharne and offer them to locals on a shared ownership scheme. So the Corporation purchases and then sells 50% to a local family who get a second charge mortgage-which repays the Corporation 50% instantly. The Corporation would act as guarantor of the Mortgage, but would have the first charge. So if the purchaser defaulted, the Corporation would have the property back-albeit with a mortgage to repay. The other 50% owned by the Corporation would be charged at a nominal rent for 5 years, and then would move to a normal rent-unless the purchaser purchased the other 50% at the current market value.
This is what should be happening-local families staying within Laugharne, and not driven away due to House Prices that are too high for Local Young Couples/Families to afford. If this continues to happen, we will eventually lose the Surgery in Laugharne-which would affect the Chemist in Laugharne and ultimately the Primary school.
As a Transition town we need to focus on the local community, incomers are always welcome, but if we lose the Laugharne local touch, then Laugharne will die.
Laugharne is a special place-lets keep it as that and forget the Celeb fest that happened a few years ago-properties purchases at stupid prices, or silly offers made -and who failed to complete on most. It happened, let reality kick in. |

Anyone interested in setting up "The Laugharne Brewery", a Community project, please contact me-especially if you have micro-brewing experience. We need to find a small building with a natural water supply. |

We are still looking for some land to use as an allotment. To see what can be done follow this link-Community Allotment.
Surely somewhere in Laugharne there is a field that could be used as a community allotment- it makes sense to have a cic allotment which supplies some fresh food to the community. |
