Laugharne has had a lot of press over the last few years, where one individual was trying to promote it as some sort of "Yuppie" destination. It is not that, the celebrities, who were touted were actually not here that often. Laugharne is as it was- a gentle Township, which welcomes visitor's who ever they are. A lot to offer, and occasionally a Celebrity might be here. But the normal day in Laugharne, is just locals and visitors enjoying the perfect location of Laugharne- a Norman/Georgian township on a spectacular estuary with good Pubs, restaurants and accommodation. Laugharne is loved by many-and rightly so- as well as Dylan Thomas, Kingsley Amis wrote "The Old Devils " here, Richard Hughes rented the Castle House for many years "High wind to Jamaica",Charles Morgan lived here and Augustus John did what he did in Laugharne. A rich literary heritage, and due I am sure due to it's spectacular setting and unspoilt heritage.

We have a huge space- not allowed to be called a Car Park, because it floods, and the Green Banks. Totally unused other than a "Car Boot " thing, every Weds in the summer. Enough of that. Laugharne could have a Book Fair-book stalls and readings, a Music Fair-stalls selling Vinyl as well as rare CD's -bands playing.Knitting Fair- A Fair every quarter. Not hard to do or organise, and would do so much to kick start the economy in Laugharne. Saundersfoot in Pembs do so much to develop the Village-we have so much more to offer, one of the greatest settings and historic townships in Wales. The Laugharne weekend proves people will come and love Laugharne. Just need a few more "events". Laugharne needs to be sustainable, the drift to Holiday homes will not maintain sustainability or encourage visitors. Laugharne has enormous attractions, and we need to develop these in a sensible fashion. Not change Laugharne, just use what we have for the benefit of the Community and improve the Visitor's experience.

Living in Laugharne, you some time forget how wonderful it is.One of the loveliest estuaries I have seen, ever changing, walk up the hill heading south and views of Laugharne that are just spectacular. The main street(King St) full of Georgian buildings-then a walk along Dylan's Walk to the Boathouse. Down the steps and walk underneath the Norman Castle and back to the Gryst. What could be better.

Emily Mitchell from Laugharne got to the top of Kilimanjaro- tough I gather, back in England, should be home in Laugharne shortly. Thanks to all who supported her climb, especially Laugharne Corporation for their generosity in supporting her personally. An experience she will never forget and she managed to raise funds of £2200 for Childreach International that helps disadvantaged kids in Africa.
